3rd Meijin-Godokoro...
San'etsu dead in 1658 and master Doetsu succeeded to Honinbo III at age 23. In Honinbo family, Takahashi Yusen, San'etsu's pupil, was only a chief player and Dosaku just became a desciple.
On the other hand Sanchi was in the prime of his Go player at age 42. In Yasui family, Santetsu II and Chitetsu were already made much of in a court noble according to the diaries.
Sanchi had won Tenkai's favor, a highest]ranking Buddhist priest, and been introduced with Shogun Iemitsu at age 12. He also carried on under the patronage of Daimyo Matsudaira Higono-kami and lived within his premises.
In 1668 he at last promoted to the 3rd Meijin and Go-dokoro with forcing assistance of his patronage without mutual agreement with other Go families.
