Honinbo Sansa...
Toyotomi Hideyoshi, one of Nobunaga's subordinate generals, defeated Akechi Mitsuhide at the decisive battle. He, taking over Nobunaga's ambition, subjugated the whole country.
Hideyoshi was also a ardent Go player and recommended it to his genrals because of it's strategic thought being usefull to a battle.
Under the suspices of him, the strongest player's decision matches at his presence were held on 1585 at first time and on 1588 at second.
Nikkai defeated all the Jozu(top players of the day), Kashio Rigen, Jyusai and Yamanouchi Shourin, at second match and received a yearly salary.
Hideyoshi praised him and ordered all the players except his master Sen'ya to take black(Sen) against him hereafter.
He changed his name to Honinbo Sansa.
